Cast and Crew for BIRTH, a play by Playwright Karen Brody
All Cast and crew have volunteered their time and energy away from their families and jobs or other obligations to make this event a fundraiser for Mother friendly organizations in and around Atlanta, Georgia and are very excited about participating in this project to raise awareness of Mother Friendly Childbirth.
Cast and Crew
Robin Thornhill: (As Amanda a stay - at - home mother of two who lives in the suburbs of Seattle, Washington) is very excited to be a part of BIRTH! Originally an Alabama native, she has been living the past three years in the Atlanta area while her husband John completes his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree. She works as a Chiropractic Enrollment Specialist at Life Univeristy. Robin along with her sister Lori are also owners of The Historic Ashland Theatre, in Ashland Alabama. The sisters were just featured in Southern Living Magazine for the renovations of the historic theatre and the Children’s Theatre STAR Camp program they organized. Robin is a very passionate birth advocate and has enjoyed being a part of the birth community in Atlanta and hopes to bring back much of what she has learned to her community in Alabama . Besides Theatre and Birth, Robin is also passionate about Photography, Growing her own food, Spending time outdoors with her husband, and of course Chiropractic. Her favorite stage roles include: Annelle-Steel Magnolias, Judus/Devil- Cotton Patch Gospel, Raynelle-Dearly Departed, Rizzo-Grease, and Silvia in Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen of Verona. A special thanks to Liz Munoz for bringing me on as a part of this marvelous project. It has been an incredible experience to work on a play that has such an impact. Thank you to all the ladies in the cast; you are all such an amazing inspiration to me!
Krista Hanson: (As Beth a 35 - year old successful, high powered computer systems manager from New Jersey) I am honored to be a part of the BOLD Atlanta events! It's wonderful to see education and support of women's choice in birth options growing here in Atlanta. I'm completely passionate and inspired by all things related to birth, pregnancy and motherhood. I am a Doula and an advocate for Georgia Friends of Midwives. But my most rewarding position is being a stay-at-home mama to my delightfully inspiring toddler boy. Nothing is more satisfying to me then spending each day loving and learning about life through children. The birth of my son, Callan, forever changed me is such a beautiful and meaningful way. He was born at home with a fantastic midwife here in Atlanta. I hope for another peaceful home birth for my second child due in mid-January and so very excited for another birth! I am forever thankful to my husband, Tim, for supporting me through this journey of life and parenthood and being the perfect partner, and help during rehearsal.
Sonya Pailes: (As Janet a feminist that works as a cameraman for documentary films) moved to GA from NC less than two years ago. I have been a passionate learner, participant, advocate, speaker, volunteer and event coordinator in all things related to Pregnancy, Birth, Breastfeeding, Gentle parenting, Family rights and Home schooling for 15 years. I am a Certified Professional Midwife. I also volunteer and stay active with La Leche League and many other groups and organizations. I am the one and only wife to my very supportive, and helpful, loving husband Chuck. My favorite productions in life have been my six children between the ages of 3 and 20. My children have taught me more than I could ever learn from a book. As far as acting goes as a young teen I was occasionally an extra on Raleigh's very own locally produced show for children called "Sparks" but don't forget I was only an extra and I have a 20 year old so that was a long, long, long time ago. Don't forget to clap for me anyway!
Sarah Griffith:
(As Jillian A stay at home mother to four orginally from Ohio but now in TX) is looking forward to her first professional acting experience portraying the part of Jillian. Sarah specifically relates to this role because, like Jillian, she has had her own “mixed bag” of birth experiences. Most recently, Sarah made the controversial decision to post footage of her youngest son’s homebirth... on YouTube.com. The video, “Bastian’s Birth,” led way to featured pieces on Good Morning America and in the New York Times. Whether the responses are negative or positive, she continues her patient quest to educate the public about today’s birthing choices. A Certified Lactation Counselor, Sarah hopes to become a midwife. She's currently a stay-at-home Mom and enjoys hula hooping in her spare time, sometimes on fire! Sarah lives in Marietta, Georgia, with her husband Brian, nine-year-old son Declan, and almost two-year-old son, Bastian.
Liz Munoz: As Lisa a woman who works for an international woman's rights organization in Washington, DC. Elizabeth Munoz is thrilled to make her ATL acting and directorial debut with BIRTH. Past credits include: Christmas Rappings(NYC), The Grapes of Wrath(Alabama Shakespeare Festival), Annie(RMTC Birmingham), Cabaret(Dungeon Theatre) and Nunsense(The Playhouse in the Pines). Liz is currently working toward becoming a CNM, and hopes to attend Emory next fall. Future goals include opening a birth center, educating women about their bodies, and changing the way we birth in America! Many thanks to Karen Brody, Sonya, GFOM, Brian and Angela Barnes and the entire cast! XOXO to AJM, Robin, and LIK. This one's for you, mom!
Rachel Hart: (As
Natalie a successful artist who lives in New Mexico) and (As Sandy a freelance editor for an online magazine) is honored to be joining such a strong group of women in this show. is a midwife in Atlanta and the mother of four children, all born at home. Her last baby was born unassisted. She has always had a love for acting and is excited to be a participant in a play about her other great passion-BIRTH!
Arcenia Wright: (As Vanessa, A woman from NYC that runs her own business. She is a strong willed, couldn't care less what anyone thinks about me woman.) She was born in Mexico and stared acting in junior high school. She continue acting in California in a local T.V show. She married and moved to Georgia and has given birth to 3 children, two of whom were born at home, one unassisted. She believes it is important for women to empower themselves throughout the birthing process and hopes that this play will serve as an avenue to this end.
Reid Forrester: (Plays the majority of obstetricians, nurses, midwives, doula'sand other misc. characters) I’m so excited to be a part of BOLD Atlanta and Birth. I’ve been a “birth junkie” for the past 11 years- and spend my time volunteering as a birth advocate and working as a childbirth educator, prenatal and Mayan Abdominal massage therapist, prenatal yoga instructor, and homebirth mom. My husband Michael and I are strong believers in sharing and supporting a natural approach to birth, health and wellness. We live in the metro Atlanta area with our beautiful 2 year old son Liam.

Director: Elizabeth Munoz
Stage Manager: Brian Barnes - I am the stage manager. I am 33, an aquarius married to Angela also an aquarius. We have 4 cats and live in Smyrna GA. My interests include organic gardening and holistic living. I have a business degree from KSU and am pursuing a career in Massage Therapy. I chose to be a part of the play because I think that natural childbirth is healthier, safer and focuses on the mother and child's well being. My hope is that the play will open the eyes of mother's and and father's to birth the way nature intended.
This is supposed to be one of the greatest moments in our lives and it has been reduced to a surgical procedure. My hope is that BIRTH will help change our paradigm on life from the very beginning of life. We need to work with nature not against it!
Organizer: Sonya Pailes For the second year in a row I am the organizer of BOLD Atlanta and for the first time the producer of BIRTH. Adding on BIRTH would not have been possible if I had not met Elizabeth, our brilliant director as well as one of our cast members and another one of our cast members, Robin! I am very excited that Georgia Friends Of Midwives as well as many other volunteer's have joined in to help make this event bigger and better this year with double the events! I am having so much fun getting to know these lovely and passionate ladies as well as the other birth professionals and advocates of our community.
